Program Assistant

Voces Internship of Idaho is hiring for a part-time IDAHO-BASED PROGRAM ASSISTANT. 

Compensation: $22 - $25 an hour depending on experience

Location: This role is remote.

Voces Internship of Idaho is an internship program that recruits, mentors and places Idaho college students and recent graduates in paid newsroom internships. Since our launch in April 2022, we have placed 27 interns in paid internships at news outlets around the state. Our work doesn’t end after the interns complete their internships – we help alumni with job applications, provide career development and training opportunities, and host events to allow Voces alumni and interns to network with professional journalists in Idaho and around the country. We have an active board and advisory council of local leaders and journalists, and collaborate closely with the Idaho Press Club. 

 

This is a position that would be on average 15 to 20 hours a week, with flexible scheduling. The program assistant would be primarily responsible for managing the operations of the Voces Internship of Idaho’s intern programming under the direction of the board President.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Voces program schedule, helping schedule Voces meetings and intern interviews
  • Handling intern and newsroom paperwork and welcome packages
  • Creating, drafting and executing plans to improve our orientations, during-internship programming and training and mentorship structures
  • Working alongside recruitment coordinator and mentorship manager to gather student feedback and improve the Voces internship experience
  • social media posting and management
  • Design and create ongoing communication for programming engagement including social media posts, email campaigns as well as direct relationship building with stakeholders to encourage participation in programs
  • Storing the Voces merch and tabling materials
  • Assist with the coordination of and provide support for all alumni activities including: events, database usage, the alumni trip and reunion, recruitment and fundraising, including providing logistical support and conducting outreach and follow-up with alumni volunteers
  • Assists in administrative activities providing support across departments and functions including: scheduling and coordinating meetings; creating and developing visual presentations and assisting in general correspondence, memos, charts, etc.; and managing printing, shipping, mass mailings and e-mailings.
  • Supports the planning of events, including the annual alumni reunion and Voces board retreat

Requirements:

  • Superb organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills – knowledge of Canva, MS Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Excel,
  • Outlook, Zoom, Mailchimp.
  • Strong communication who excels with writing, social media and engagement
  • Strong work ethic with a healthy respect for meeting deadlines
  • Strategic thinker with a creative mindset
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to travel and work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Valid Driver’s License, insurance and personal vehicle
     

Familiarity with journalism is greatly encouraged, Spanish proficiency is a plus but not required. Successful candidates will be eager to help develop the next generation of journalists, be responsive, able to meet deadlines and creative problem solvers.
