UT Libraries - Special Collections Student Library Assistant
Betsey B. Creekmore Special Collections and University Archives, located in Hodges Library, seeks a qualified Student Library Assistant (SLA) to help process materials and make them accessible. SLAs in Special Collections will gain exposure to both public and behind-the-scenes elements of the special collection library/archival field. SLAs will work closely with archivists and other staff to make these unique and valuable research collections accessible to current and future users. The position will be located at 121 Hodges Library.
Hours: 15-20 hours per week. Schedule is negotiable within our business hours (9:00-5:00, Monday-Friday).
Required Qualifications:
· Current UT student (undergraduate or graduate)
· Interest in history or special collections librarianship
· Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
· Experience using library resources
· Experience using Excel
· Strong attention to detail
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Comfortable learning and working with new software
· Punctual and reliable
· Ability and willingness to lift 40 lbs. for moving and shifting boxes
Preferred:
· Student in library science or related field
· Prior library work experience
· Experience completing tasks and projects independently
· Prior research/ experience with Special Collections
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Create, verify, and edit detailed inventories of large collections of documents, photographs and recordings
· Verify and help organize large collections of materials
· Arrange and describe collections of historic manuscripts and archival materials
· Take responsibility for re-shelving collections and keeping track of supplies
· Other duties as assigned
