STEM Teacher, Grades 6-12
West Greene School District is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Secondary STEM Teacher to join our team for the current school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and be passionate about preparing students for college and careers in STEM fields. This position involves teaching a variety of subjects, including but not limited to robotics, engineering design, computer science, and other integrated STEM courses. Several of the courses emphasize participation in regional STEM competitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an engaging and rigorous STEM curriculum for students in grades 7-12.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on activities, to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Integrate technology effectively into the classroom to enhance learning and prepare students for a digital world.
- Foster a positive and collaborative classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
- Assess student progress regularly and provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create an interdisciplinary approach to STEM education.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in STEM education.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff regarding student performance and classroom activities.
- Sponsor or assist with STEM-related extracurricular activities, such as a robotics club, science fair, and STEM competitions.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science) or a related field.
Certification: Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification in a relevant area (e.g., General Science, Biology, Physics, Technology Education).
Experience: Previous teaching experience, particularly in a secondary school setting, is highly desirable, but not required. Experience with project-based learning and integrating technology into the curriculum is a plus.
Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Proficiency with educational technology and a willingness to learn new tools.
