Student Media Production Intern - College of Arts and Sciences

About the VOLinternship Program: 

The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run the duration of one academic semester. Students will be able to gain real work experience without leaving campus! About the Internship:

The student media production intern produces photo and video content for digital platforms to support visual storytelling and outreach efforts of multiple departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. This position provides hands-on experience in creative media production, content strategy, and brand communication within a higher education environment.  Working under the supervision of the college communications office, the intern collaborates with departmental faculty, staff, and students to create multimedia content that highlights academic programs, faculty research, student achievements, and events while maintaining consistency with university branding and accessibility standards.

Internship Responsibilities: 

  • Capture and edit high-quality photos and videos for use on websites, social media, and other digital channels.
  • Assist in planning, filming, and producing short-form video content (interviews, promotional videos, event recaps, research spotlights).
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to plan and produce creative visual content highlighting research, teaching, student life, and community engagement.
  • Ensure all content adheres to the university’s brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and tone.
  • Support live event coverage through photography, videography, and social media content creation.
  • Collaborate with communications team members to develop creative concepts and scripts.
  • Organize and maintain digital media archives, including proper metadata and file storage.
  • Edit and deliver content optimized for multiple platforms (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.).

Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student 
  • Demonstrated experience in photo and/or video production (academic, professional, or personal projects).
  • Familiarity with video editing and photo editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, or similar).
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
