Communications Intern - College of Architecture and Design
About the Office:
The College of Architecture and Design's administrative team focuses on supporting all administrative functions of the college's operations. The office is currently located off campus on Sutherland, with this position being hybrid.
About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. About the Internship:
The Communications Intern will support the college’s digital communications efforts across websites, social media platforms, email marketing, and online campaigns.
Internship Responsibilities:
Digital Content Creation & Publishing
- Assist in drafting, editing, and scheduling content for social media channels (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook).
- Help create multimedia content such as graphics, short videos, stories, or reels in collaboration with design staff.
- Support website updates, including posting news, blogs, event pages, and feature stories via CMS platform (WordPress).
- Write or edit email newsletter content, event announcements, and digital campaign messaging.
Social Media & Audience Engagement
- Monitor social media channels for engagement, mentions, trends, and audience questions.
- Participate in real-time content efforts during events, campaigns, or announcements (live posting, stories, behind-the-scenes coverage).
- Research and recommend platform trends, hashtags, content ideas, and best practices.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track performance metrics for social media, email, and web traffic using tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Insights, or Status Brew.
- Assist in compiling monthly or campaign reports with key observations and insights.
- Help identify opportunities to increase reach, engagement, and conversions.
Brand & Messaging Support
- Ensure all published content aligns with branding, tone, and communications guidelines.
- Assist in proofreading and quality-checking materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Maintain digital asset libraries (photos, videos, templates, brand files).
Project & Administrative Support
- Help maintain content calendars and internal editorial schedules.
- Attend team meetings, contribute ideas, and assist with planning digital strategies.
- Support special campaigns, events, or announcements as needed." engagement.
Qualifications:
- Working toward a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone, clarity, and detail.
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and basic content scheduling tools.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools (preferred but not required).
- Basic understanding of SEO, web publishing, or email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.).
- Interest in data and analytics, with willingness to learn tracking/reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities."
