About the Office:
The Univ of TN Theatre Department and the professional Clarence Brown Theatre are integrated to provide a unique experience and quality theatre education for students while simultaneously serving as a cultural resource for the East Tennessee community. Training of future artists and technicians in all disciplines of theatre is achieved by having students working side-by-side professional theatre artists and technicians in a real-world environment.
About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. Students will be able to gain real work experience without leaving campus! Gain access to real-world experience, enhanced professional development, and industry mentors by applying now!
About the Internship:
The Prop Internship will provide a student the opportunity to work within our professional Prop Shop. It will provide a student the opportunity to see how a professional shop is run, to learn/hone skills in multiple art mediums, and to help create professional-quality props for theatre productions. The internship will allow a student to gain professional-level experience, develop a versatile skill set, and build a professional portfolio.
Prop artisans are an important part of any theatre company - and most performance based companies (tv, film, etc.). It is a unique field that requires strong artist skills, the use of a wide range of art mediums, daily problem solving for unique challenges, and strong collaboration with directors, actors, and theatre staff.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Communication with Shop Supervisor.
- Collaboration with other staff members.
- Construction and Crafting of Props - including, but not limited to, sewing, painting, wood construction, computer work, and upholstery.
- Help with organization and maintenance of Prop inventory.
- Help with transportation of props and furniture between multiple venues."
Qualifications:
- Ability to work both independently and in a group setting.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to follow multiple and multi-step directions.
- Flexibility.
- Ability to lift and move a minimum of 25 pounds.
- General beginning crafting and construction skills.
- Organizational skills.
- Desire to learn
