Center for Transportation Research (CTR) is part of the Tickle College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. CTR researchers and staff members work to improve transportation and promote the safe and efficient transport of goods and people through community programs, research, training, and more.
About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. About the Internship:
The Center for Transportation Research (CTR) is seeking student interns to assist with planning, developing, and conducting a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math outreach program called AMIL. This position will help the Advanced Mobility Innovation Lab (AMIL) program reach underserved K-12 students in rural and urban core areas. This portable STEM lab fuses transportation technology demonstrations with project-based STEM activities to expose students to advanced technologies and educate them about the STEM principles used to develop and operate such systems.
Internship Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include identifying transportation technologies suited for demonstrations to youth, an inventory of transportation-themed learning activities, further developing the AMIL program, and creating a beta version of a lab. Selected students will perform literature reviews and web searches to identify examples of similar programs, assist in transforming technical concepts into problem-based learning activities, select mobility technologies for demonstrations, and assist with outreach efforts to teachers and students.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will be an education, engineering, or science student interested in technology and/or STEM education.
Additional Information:
Those filling this position will work 10-20 hours per week and will report to CTR’s associate director, Dr. Jerry Everett.
