Instructional Design Intern - Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center
About the Office:
The Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center serves student writers in all disciplines of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, academic community by offering free and individualized help throughout the writing process. Trained writing consultants provide feedback in one-to-one conversations that help students develop confidence and skill as writers. The Center also provides guidance to faculty with assignment design and writing assessment, and works with students in local high schools and community organizations on their college application essays and other types of writing.
About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. Students will be able to gain real work experience without leaving campus! Gain access to real-world experience, enhanced professional development, and industry mentors by applying now!
About the Internship:
The instructional design intern will gain hands-on experience in creating educational content for writers under the mentorship of an experienced instructional designer. Assists with the design and development of digital writing support modules and interactive writing guides, researches writers’ needs, incorporates feedback into designs, and collaborates with writing experts. Works with tools such as Articulate Rise and Canvas LMS. The intern will gain experience in online learning methodologies, curriculum development, and educational technologies. Open to students from any major.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Content design and development: Assist with the design and development of digital writing support modules and interactive writing guides, under the mentorship of an experienced instructional designer.
- Research: Conduct research on writers’ needs to inform content creation and instructional design strategies.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with writing experts to ensure high-quality and effective content.
- Tool utilization: Utilize tools such as Articulate Rise and Canvas LMS for designing and delivering educational content.
Qualifications
- Open to students from any major.
- Sophomore, junior, or senior classification.
- Technical skills: Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn new software. Familiarity with instructional design tools such as Articulate Rise and Canvas LMS is a plus, but is not mandatory.
- Research abilities: Ability to conduct research into writing and writers’ needs and apply findings to content creation.
- Communication abilities: Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Open to feedback and able to incorporate suggestions into designs.
- Interest in learning: Enthusiasm for gaining experience in online learning methodologies and educational technologies.
