Staff Writer, The Daily Beacon

Applications Deadline: Monday, Dec. 15 at 11:59 p.m.

The Daily Beacon is seeking 2-3 staff writers to join its News and Arts & Culture
(NARTs team). Ideal candidates should have a strong understanding of journalistic writing and should have previous experience in beat reporting for the Beacon.
 

  • In this position, you are expected to:
    Write a minimum of two stories per week
  • Report to your section editor(s) and communicate on story progress daily
  • Work a beat if assigned by your editor
  • Develop sources
  • Pitch 2 stories per week (at least 1 within your beat)
  • Attend 1 monthly All Staff Meeting
  • Attend 1 weekly NARTs meeting and 1 weekly beat meeting
  • Write all articles in proper AP Style
  • Plan a visual element for every story
  • Help to promote the Beacon through scheduled campus outreach events and engaging
    with content on social media

Staff writers receive $15/article.

This position reports to The Daily Beacon News and Arts&Culture editors. Additional duties may be assigned.
