Graduate Student Library Assistant

The Health, Wellness & Professional Programs Department at John C. Hodges Library seeks a Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA) to join its team for the upcoming academic semester (January 20, 2026-May 15, 2026) The Graduate Student Assistant will provide essential support to the Business and Patent & Trademark Resource Center within the library. This role involves assisting with communication management, event coordination, instructional content development, and resource maintenance. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills who is interested in gaining experience in academic library operations.

The salary for this position is $14/hour, and prior library work experience is not required. The GSLA will work up to 10 hours weekly with flexible hours to accommodate the student’s academic schedule.

Responsibilities & Duties

· Manage departmental email accounts for Business and the Patent & Trademark Resource Center, ensuring timely review of incoming messages and forwarding inquiries to the appropriate librarian.

· Provide support for library events and programs, assisting with planning and logistics.

· Assist with collection development tasks, including ordering books and other materials designated for subject areas.

· Prepare and distribute departmental communications, such as announcements, newsletters, and updates.

· Collaborate with librarians to develop instructional content, including tutorials and online modules.

· Maintain existing online research guides for Business subject areas in collaboration with librarians to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and usability.

Required Qualifications

· Currently enrolled as a University of Tennessee graduate student in Information Sciences, Business, or a closely related program.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to excellent customer service.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with attention to detail.

· Familiarity with information and technology resources, including databases, internet search tools, online design tools, and standard software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Canva)

Preferred Qualifications

· Familiarity with LibGuides or similar platforms for creating and maintaining research guides.

· Event planning or coordination experience in an academic or professional setting.

· Interest in business research, intellectual property, or entrepreneurship resources.
