Engineering Specifications Intern

We are seeking a detail-oriented Engineering Specifications Intern to assist with the standardization of electrical and mechanical engineering specifications for building design projects. This role focuses on reviewing, comparing, and updating current specifications against a master specification using AI tools and SpecLink software.

This internship offers an introduction to the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry and provides experience working alongside industry-leading professional engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review electrical and mechanical engineering specifications and compare them to the firm’s master specification.
  • Use AI tools and SpecLink to analyze specification content and identify differences, omissions, and inconsistencies.
  • Prepare clear, organized reports outlining differences between current specifications and the master specification for each section.
  • Update and standardize content within SpecLink by incorporating approved changes into the master specification.
  • Assist with additional specification and documentation standardization efforts as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to clarify scope, intent, and technical requirements of specifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to compare technical documents accurately.
  • Proficiency with AI tools for document comparison, analysis, and workflow support.
  • Ability to learn and interface with SpecLink specification software.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with SpecLink or other specification software.
  • Coursework or background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related AEC field.
  • Familiarity with building design, construction documents, or technical specifications.
