Assignment Manager
WPSD LOCAL 6, the dominant legacy NBC affiliate in Paducah, Kentucky (90th DMA), is looking for a highly organized, editorially strong Assignment Manager to lead daily newsgathering across our television and newspaper platforms in the four-state region. This role is responsible for monitoring news, planning coverage, and ensuring our newsroom is focused on the most important local stories.
Responsibilities:
- Track breaking news and develop daily/long-term coverage plans
- Coordinate with reporters, producers, and editors on story development
- Generate story ideas and help reporters build enterprise content
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders and sources
- Manage newsroom calendars, contacts, and assignment desk logistics
- Assist with timecard oversight and newsroom operations
- Participate in training and serve in an on-call rotation, including some weekends
The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment and organizational skills; an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; excellent communication and collaboration skills; newsroom experience (assignment desk, reporting, or producing) preferred; and familiarity with broadcast and digital workflows.
