Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Environmental Health & Safety Data and Information Manager, the student assistant will support EHS operations through a variety of office-based tasks. Responsibilities may include data entry, data review, document filing, and other administrative duties as needed.
This position offers a unique opportunity to learn about the role of EHS in maintaining a safe and compliant university environment. Through their work, the student assistant will gain exposure to a wide range of campus operations, including research and teaching laboratory safety, general worker safety, environmental campus programs, and other university departments, while developing valuable professional and technical skills.
This position is off campus at the Middlebrook Pike Building, and reliable transportation will be required.
Essential Functions:
- Perform administrative tasks, including data collection, data entry, and support for campus safety initiatives.
- Review, clean, and organize data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Assist with the documentation and filing of departmental records.
- Review e-learning courses for user experience, accessibility, and other criteria according to a defined rubric.
- Assist in the editing process by using grammar-checking applications and methods effective in e-learning development platforms.
- Provide feedback to the Training Manager using predetermined methods.
- Contribute to departmental communications, including social media content and outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
- A student enrolled at the University of Tennessee.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a strong customer service orientation, the ability to use good judgment, and the ability to exercise discretion.
- Must have excellent professional demeanor, be self-motivated, and be flexible.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Required (or Preferred) Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong keyboarding skills and a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office [Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams] applications and the Microsoft Office 365 online environment are needed.
- Ability to communicate and work well with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
- Familiarity with research laboratories and/or laboratory equipment is preferred but is not required.
- Reliable transportation.
