Software Engineer 

Location: Austin, TX or New York City, NY
Compensation: $70,000 – $120,000 base (depending on experience) + meaningful equity

We are a seed-stage FinTech company building the premier financial tools and banking product for military service members. With product launch targeted for 2026, this is a pivotal moment to join our founding technical team and help shape the future of military-focused banking.

The Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer I to grow with us as we build our core banking products and Personal Finance Management (PFM) features. You'll write production code from your first weeks here, learn the banking and payments domain from engineers who've done it before, and see your work go out to real customers rather than sitting in a backlog.
 

We're a scrappy team hiring for aptitude, curiosity, and evidence that you can build things. You'll get more direct mentorship and more real ownership than you would as one of forty new grads at a large company.

What You'll Work On

  • Core Banking Features: Contribute to account management, transaction processing, and payment rails integrations — starting with well-scoped pieces and taking on larger surface area as you ramp
  • PFM Features: Help build budgeting, spending insights, financial goal tracking, and analytics features that our customers use daily
  • Testing & Quality: Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and help keep our test coverage and CI pipelines healthy
  • Bug Fixes & Iteration: Own defects end-to-end — reproduce, diagnose, fix, verify. This is one of the fastest ways to learn a codebase, and you'll do a lot of it early
  • Collaboration: Work directly with our UI/UX designer and senior engineers to turn designs and requirements into working software
  • Documentation: Write down what you learn. Our internal docs get meaningfully better every time someone new joins and asks the obvious questions

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience. New graduates, bootcamp graduates, and self-taught engineers are all welcome
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, or similar)
  • Familiarity with web fundamentals: HTTP, REST APIs, and how a frontend talks to a backend
  • Basic understanding of databases and the ability to write SQL queries
  • Comfort with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to build and ship something — internships, personal projects, open-source contributions, coursework, hackathons, or freelance work all count
  • Strong written communication. We're remote, and most of what you learn and teach will be in writing
  • Genuine interest in fintech and in the problem we're solving for the military community

Highly Valued

  • Exposure to React or React Native
  • Exposure to Node.js or another backend framework
  • Coursework, projects, or internship experience touching fintech, payments, or financial data
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) at any level
  • Experience with Docker or other containerization tools
  • Open-source contributions, technical writing, or a blog
  • Interest in security and privacy fundamentals — you don't need production experience here, but you should care about it

What Success Looks Like

  • First 30 days: Get your development environment running, ship your first bug fix or small feature to production, and start building a mental model of our stack and the banking domain. Ask a lot of questions.
  • First 90 days: Independently deliver well-scoped features with normal code review. Contribute to team discussions and start spotting gaps in our tests and documentation.
  • First 6 months: Own meaningful pieces of the PFM or core banking product. Be a reliable code reviewer for your teammates and a go-to person for at least one area of the system.
  • First year: Take on larger, more ambiguous problems with less scaffolding. Help onboard the next engineer we hire.
