PAID INTERNSHIP -Education Intern [WOODMERE ART MUSEUM]

Intern Responsibilities:
  • Woodmere’s intern will be working in the education department to develop educational materials on selected artworks and artists in Woodmere’s collection and upcoming fall exhibition on the artist, Barbara Bullock. Additionally, the intern will work with children participating in museum programs and the summer community art project.
  • The intern will be responsible for developing family activity guides that demonstrate the richness and diversity of works of art in Woodmere's collection and exhibitions. These guides are designed to provide useful background information and age-appropriate activities that engage children, in grades K-12, in exploring artworks and exhibitions.
  • Additionally, the intern will gain experience developing and ultimately leading adult and/or children’s tours. This will include an art and nature tour of the relationship between sculptures and the environment.
  • The intern will work with students participating in Woodmere's summer community art project where under the guidance of a professional artist, students, ages 8-17, collaborate together in the design and construction of an outdoor artwork that is installed on Woodmere's grounds.

Qualifications:
  • Have an interest in education, specifically for engaging students with artworks as a way of learning; exploring their imaginations, developing critical thinking skills, and celebrating the arts and artists of Philadelphia.
  • Have good attention to detail. He/she should have an interest in art history and museum practices.
  • Be organized, responsible and self-motivated.  It is important for the candidate to work well in both group and collaborative settings as well as independently.
  • Computer skills (must bring their own computer).
  • Demonstrate creative thinking; good communication skills;
  • Enjoy working with children.
