Graphic Design Intern | Enrollment Management Communications
The Office of Enrollment Management Communications at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) is seeking applications for our Graphic Design Internship position. The Graphic Design Intern assists the Enrollment Management team in various marketing and communications efforts to assist in branding and strategy alignment across mediums. This position will be expected to enhance the UT Admissions digital presence by staying up to date with higher education marketing trends, consistently researching competitors, and assisting in the development of blog content.

The Graphic Design Intern should be very organized, have a strong work ethic, take initiative, be extremely detail-oriented, and be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks to successful and timely completion. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape; possess an understanding of communications and content development; and demonstrate creativity, critical thinking, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Graphic Design Intern Job Responsibilities:
  • Ideates and creates social media design assets
  • Create individual design deliverables as assigned by supervisor
  • Audit existing design content to strengthen
  • Learn and design to the brand standards of the university
  • Research design trends and complete competitor analysis in the higher education market
  • Execute a semester project with other Enrollment Management Creative interns
  • Participate in creative team brainstorm and development, as time allows 

Opportunities as a Graphic Design Intern:
  • Grow in professional development through training and relationship building with staff
  • Engage with the EM Comms team to assist in branding and strategy alignment across mediums
  • Receive recommendation letters and have EM Comms team members serve as future references
  • Participate in strategy meetings with Enrollment Management team members and key stakeholders
  • Brainstorm and pitch various campaign, content, and design ideas 
  • Develop confidence and marketable skills in higher education communications, policies, procedures, and processes 


Requirements:
  • Availability to work 15-20 hours per week in the EM Communications office (This is a paid internship)
  • Major in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field
  • Must conduct yourself in a professional manner
  • In 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of college program 
  • Prior industry experience is preferred
  • If hired, you will be expected to:
  • “Clock in” and “clock out” with your supervisor when working by tracking your hours daily in Asana
  • Meet your assignment deadlines and contribute to high-quality work
  • Reach out to your supervisor anytime you need assistance, clarity, guidance, or need to shift your priorities
  • Remain in constant communication with your supervisor and EM Comms

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises of the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid & Scholarships, University Registrar, Enrollment Management Communications, Enrollment Management Research & Analytics and Enrollment Management Operations.
