Community Service Volunteer Lead (Intern), Haslam Leadership Scholars
The Haslam Leadership Scholars, part of University Honors, is looking for an undergraduate student to support student service requirements. There are approximately 60 students in the Haslam Leadership Scholars Program who are each required to do 20-25 hours of community service each year. This position is seeking an intern to fully develop the service component of this program through reaching out to community partners to 1) coordinate and lead 3-5 group service days (Saturdays) each semester and 2) create a database that facilitates individual service that aligns with student interests and majors. They may be opportunities to work with the service requirements for all Honors programs as well.
While there are some parts of this initiative in place, this is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated student to create and lead a comprehensive program. This position would be about 10 hours a week and would support growth in communication, organizational, problem-solving, leadership and logistical skills.
Job responsibilities include:
- Sourcing community partners for group service days (groups of 10-20 students).
- Coordinating needs of community partners with students' availability and skills.
- Creating and maintaining a database that includes future group and individual opportunities as well as service opportunities students are currently involved in.
- Coordinate the dates, times, and materials needed for group service days (these will be Saturdays).
- Lead group service activities (with staff support): problem-solve as issues arise; facilitate volunteers in their assigned tasks; keep projects on schedule.
- Help with transportation to group service events.
- Take photos at group service events.
- Ensure students are reporting volunteer hours to JCLS.
- Connecting individual students with service opportunities related to their majors/ areas of interest.
- Support other event planning as needed
