Corporate Communications Archivist Intern

CHS has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Archivist Intern to work within our enterprise communications group. This role will support our global communications and marketing teams, helping to collect, evaluate, sort and process archived assets that combine to tell the CHS story. This internship will provide a diverse experience and play a critical role within the nation’s largest farmer-owned cooperative.

This intern will serve as a valued member of the team, helping us prepare for our upcoming 100th anniversary. Your knowledge and skills as an archivist will be a strategic addition to our team, even while this experience allows you to expand your skills in strategic decision-making and corporate communications. You must be detail-oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team and eager to learn, with excellent communications skills and the ability to handle multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Catalog and process physical and digital assets in the CHS archive and other collections within the company
  • Use appropriate archival preservation techniques to house and store assets
  • Assist with decision-making related to asset allocation and storage
  • Assist with research requests
  • Participate in planning related to assets needed to narrate company history
  • Assist with curation of exhibits and displays as needed
  • Digitize assets as needed
  • Provide access, use and evaluation of archival resources
  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Working toward a degree in an archival, library or information science program
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and ask questions, while also collaborating effectively with diverse team members
  • Ability to maintain focus and prioritize work effectively while working on several projects at once
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, time management and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to identify and use archival best practices for handling, storing and preserving assets
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow corporate policies

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience handling and processing archival materials
  • Experience with digital preservation
  • Background or interest in agriculture and/or energy
  • Prior internship of work experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver 40- to 50-pound boxes
