We are looking for an Electrical Systems Manager to join our amazing Lee County Utilities team. This position will oversee all of the electrical systems for Lee County Utilities. This includes the electrical, instrumentation, and control systems required to keep the utility functioning daily. You will be responsible for overseeing and working with electrical engineers on new projects and equipment installations to meet the County’s electrical standards for all utility facilities. This includes reviewing and updating specifications and AutoCAD drawings for our new projects and existing equipment. You will also ensure that each of our facilities meets or exceeds NFPA 70E and OSHA safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Electrical Systems Manager, you will monitor and provide input regarding new construction Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) while working alongside Project Managers and Engineers to ensure the projects are following County standards and in compliance with project specifications.

You will also work with the Water and Wastewater Managers to maintain a 5-year budget plan for operations, CIP, repair, replacement, and major maintenance for water and wastewater plant projects. This also includes ensuring contractors are performing necessary repairs and replacements to keep all systems operational.  
 
You will oversee the Controls group, which provides SCADA network administration services including access control, backup, monitoring, control, man-machine graphical interface, integration, troubleshooting, security, and other activities. You will oversee the Electrical group, whose electricians troubleshoot all electrical issues and maintain 35 motor control centers, over 200 variable frequency drives, and lighting at all the facilities.  You will also oversee the Instrumentation group, which provides installation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration services for over 2500 instruments that measure flow, level, pressure or chemical parameters.
 
This position directly supervises three Superintendents, and has 20 indirect reports including two Apprentices within the Department. As an Electrical Systems Manager, you will be directing these employees on day-to-day activities, including troubleshooting, repair, installation of electrical components and the preventative maintenance program at all the treatment facilities. You will be relaying information and communicating with other section managers, electrical superintendents, and staff. This will also include preparing and reviewing annual evaluations. 
 
The Electrical Systems Manager is responsible for organizing, obtaining, and/or purchasing any equipment that is necessary including variable frequency drives, switchgears, motors, process instrumentation, controls software, telemetry, and network equipment. You will also ensure that all your staff has the right equipment for the job and are following the established safety practices, standards, regulations, and policies, and be responsible for completing other tasks and duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum requirements:

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, physical or environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Two years in public utilities, electric utility engineering work, utility/power generation industry, or closely related experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.

 Preferred requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in business administration, engineering, physical or environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Five years in public utilities, electric utility engineering work, utility/power generation industry, or closely related experience.
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with National Electric Code standards and NFPA safety standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes, fire codes, electrical codes, and other codes relevant to Lee County.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and SCADA.
  • Electrical Contractor (Master’s) license.
  • MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), Electrical projects/industrial construction projects experience.
  • Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST).

Supplemental Information

  • The workdays and hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with availability after hours, weekends or holidays as needed.

During an Emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
