Science has an exciting opportunity for a paid summer internship with our Visuals Department!

Reporting to the Web Content Strategy Manager, this Science Visuals Intern will get experience accurately summarizing scientific news and research for social media and will learn how to effectively promote science visuals. Experience creating short-form video for social is a plus.

What You’ll Do

  • Create and schedule accurate, engaging, and brand-appropriate written and visual content for the Science family of journals social media feeds
  • Work closely with the Web Content Strategy, Multimedia, Design, Graphics, and Photography teams to produce still and motion visuals for social
  • Assist with script writing, voiceovers, and video editing for short-form videos for social
  • Monitor and moderate feedback on social, elevating issues as they arise
  • Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university or college program at the undergraduate, master’s, or Ph.D. level. Recent graduates in the past year also may be considered
  • A minimum of 2 years education toward a degree
    • Intellectual curiosity about science and comfort with scientific ideas is essential
    • Writing, journalism, and/or communications experience a plus
  • Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms
    • Experience creating short-form video for social a plus
  • Working knowledge of Adobe CC (particularly Photoshop and Premiere)
  • Experience using a social media scheduling platform a plus (we use Brandwatch)
  • Work well under pressure, multitask, and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and a good communicator
  • Be able to take direction well, and work both independently and collaboratively

 

Internship Details

This is a full-time paid internship, which will run from June 3, 2024 - August 23, 2024. The internship will be based out of our Washington, DC office with both remote and in-person work expected each week. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the help of a sponsorship. 

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $17.50 per hour. AAAS interns are eligible for SmarTrip transit benefits.
