Communications Specialist

Overview

As part of an integrated team, the Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting IDA’s institute-level internal and external communications programs. This individual supports groups and individuals across IDA to develop and disseminate news and information concerning corporate strategy, business plans, policies, research accomplishments and capabilities to both internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Supports communications planning and execution of various organization-specific changes, initiatives and programs.
  • Collaborates across Corporate Communications to coordinate, produce and track progress of internal and external content.
  • Lead coordinator for media relations.
  • Drafts, coordinates, edits and distributes news releases and other externally-focused materials for local, regional and/or national distribution.
  • Drafts, coordinates and edits multimedia products for internal distribution.
  • Leads quarterly production of a localized internal employee newsletter.
  • Creates, edits and improves images, graphics, briefings and other visual materials (charts, maps, graphs, photo selections, PowerPoint decks, and informational graphics).
  • Drafts, updates and refines content on IDA’s external website.
  • Monitors and manages IDA’s social media presence in coordination with Director, Corporate Communications and Chief Communications Officer.
  • Provides social media support to employees and groups across the organization by developing and amplifying content and creating social media plans for events, workshops and initiatives.
  • Partners with the Human Resources Directorate to communicate various staff initiatives.
  • Co-produces video series intended to highlight IDA staff and high-visibility research efforts.
  • Creates monthly reports of metrics detailing communication efforts and effectiveness across internal and external mediums.
  • In coordination with senior leadership, may serve as IDA’s spokesperson in the absence of the Director, Corporate Communications and Chief Communications Officer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or other relevant field; Internships or work experience in the communications field desired 
  • Superior writing and editing skills, as displayed across varied forms and formats.
  • Proficiency with the “Associated Press (AP) Stylebook.”
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated expertise using various social media platforms including X, Instagram, LinkedIn and Glassdoor.
  • Ability to analyze challenging situations, often under tight deadlines, to develop and execute communications plans with a range of tactics.
  • Experience using editorial judgment, self-direction, critical thinking and independence on multiple projects; at the same time, the ability to work well with and within teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with all levels of personnel.
  • Excellent communication research skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting metrics with media monitoring and analysis tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics and project management principles or tools preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
