Job Title: The District Shops Manager

Department/Division: The District Shops / Retail Operations

Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt 

Pay:  $46,000 – $58,000 (DOQ)

Reports to: Director of Retail Operations

Benefits: Full Benefits eligible including health insurance, flex benefits, 10 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave accrual, amenities and parking pass.

Retirement: State Employee Retirement System - GSEPS (Pension plus matching 401k)

Job Summary:
Utilizing broad objectives and guidelines, the Manager of The District Shops at Historic Pier Road is responsible for operational leadership of five shop locations within the Historic District.  This includes providing exceptional customer services to visitors, staff leadership and mentoring, merchandising, inventory control, and training and motivating staff.   This new position is perfect for a self-starter who is excited about interacting with people, merchandising unique shops, and has an overall love for Jekyll Island. 

Description:

  • Managing and motivating the team to increase sales, providing training and direction.
  • Promotes sales by demonstrating merchandise and products to customers.
  • Schedules employees based on the operational needs of the store.
  • Assign goals to employees to effectively manage their day-to-day activities.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and reinforcing organization standards.
  • Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing a rapport with customers.
  • Ensures availability of merchandise by replenishing store stock levels daily.
  • Resolves customer inquiries and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Responsible for the store’s inventory control. Assists in inventory counts, identifies shortages or surpluses and reports all discrepancies to the Director of Retail Operations.
  • Monitors and controls wages and store expenses based on the operating budget and expected customer visitation projections.
  • Keeps abreast of retail operations and attends meetings as requested. Makes sure all guest services staff is aware of changes at the beginning of each shift.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper cash controls in the gift shop. Responsible for following and ensuring all staff follow proper cash and credit card handling policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain high standards of efficiency when handling cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Prepares daily revenue reports. Ensures that all store accounting reports are accurate and submitted promptly.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper PCI compliance as required by credit card regulations.
  • Enforces program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a high school degree or a recognized equivalent. Related associate degree or higher a plus.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in retail store management required with at least three (3) recent years in a leadership role required; knowledge of managing, mentoring, and inspiring people, cultivating a positive teamwork environment.
  • Proven experience in pricing, vendor relationships, market knowledge, staffing, management proficiency, and verbal and written communication.
  • Must be detail-oriented and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Must be outgoing, personable, friendly, and love working with people.
  • The ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations.
  • Flexible availability required, must be able to work weekends, holidays, and occasional early evenings.
  • Regular and predictable punctuality and attendance of scheduled hours is required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • More than 50% of the typical workday will be spent standing.
  • Between 25 and 50% of the day will be spent walking, lifting, grasping, feeling and climbing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Less than 25% of the day will be spent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sitting.
  • Sensory abilities required include vision, hearing and touching with more than 50% of the day spent communicating; talking and hearing.
  • Must have visual clarity to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned as well as close visual clarity to prepare, analyze data and figures and operate and view a computer.
  • Majority of work will be performed within an indoor environment, however, travel between shops will be required and work subject to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Noise level is considered quiet to normal.
