Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours per calendar year. The Scientific Aid salary range is $17.21 – $20.43 per hour with new-to-state-service Scientific Aids starting at the bottom of the salary range.

The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board has three openings for Scientific Aids in the Watershed Management Division. The Scientific Aid position provides professional experience and mentoring toward career advancement.

The office is located at 1515 Clay Street, Suite 1400, Oakland, CA 94612. The schedule is flexible, to be set by the incumbent (in consultation with direct supervisor) as any combination of days and hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday-Friday, for a minimum of 20 hours per week and maximum of 40 hours per week and a maximum of 1,500 hours per calendar year. No irregular hours, weekends, or holidays are required for this posting.

Duties:

Working under established policies and guidelines, the incumbent performs scientific support work for the Watershed Management Division programs including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater programs, Waste Discharge to Land Program, Recycled Water Program, and 401 Certification Program. Using scientific skills, the incumbent will support staff to evaluate, review, check, and interpret permit applications, technical reports, specifications, and monitoring data; conduct compliance inspections and audits; and prepare reports. The incumbent will assist staff to manage case information using the appropriate internal web-based databases such as the California Integrated Water Quality System (CIWQS), Stormwater Multiple Application Reporting & Tracking System (SMARTS), GeoTracker, and Paperless Office (ECM).

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
