Summary of Position: The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal in the administration of the K-8 school with a focus on middle school programming and instruction. Duties include but are not limited to developing and enforcing policies related to student discipline and attendance; planning, organizing and implementing curriculum and assessment; hiring, supervising, evaluating and assisting with dismissing personnel; monitoring and enforcing building safety and security; assisting in planning and implementing student programs; assisting in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan; and collaborating with BECS administrators to facilitate problem-solving and adult learning opportunities for the entire BECS staff.

Interviews will start the week of April 29th and will be ongoing until the position is filled. 

Salary: $79,024-$118,537 per year (Posted rate is for the 23/24 school year; 24/25 schedule is being developed)

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in an education-related field required. 
  • Must hold a Principal license from Colorado Department of Education or be able to obtain licensure by the end of the first contract year. 
  • A minimum of 3 years instructional leadership position in a school or other educational setting.
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience, middle school preferred.

Work Year/Days - 205 days (July through June of the following year)

Reports To - Principal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists to lead the school vision, mission, and strategic improvement.
  • Assists to distribute leadership to inspire change and support of an empowered school culture.
  • Provide observation, feedback and consultation services to teachers to promote quality instructional programming and practices for all students.
  • Ensures the delivery of high quality data-driven instruction to all students by monitoring implementation of professional development in classrooms.
  • Provides instructional leadership grounded in best practices through professional development, coaching conversations, and professional learning communities to ensure high standards of instructional services to promote student educational development and achievement.
  • Coordinates building assessments as assigned.
  • Assists in coordination of school safety plans and building operations.
  • Assists in hiring, development, supervision, evaluation, and dismissal of staff.
  • Assists in the creation of master schedules & student assignments.
  • Coordinates, assists and implements student discipline at all levels including assuming the responsibility for collecting data and drafting reports relating to discipline and attendance.
  • Thinks critically about academic and non-academic issues, in order to ensure that students are getting the support they need to maintain high levels of performance. 
  • Collaborates with students, teachers, and parents to ensure that all students are successful in our academically rigorous setting.
  • Works to establish and maintain a positive growth-oriented culture which reflects our core values.
  • Communicates with and between all staff and community stakeholders.
  • Engages family and community involvement.
  • Maintains good relationships with students, parents, and staff members.
  • Embraces diversity and acts in a manner that is respectful and inclusive of the variety of families, students and community members which the school works to serve.
  • Effectively and efficiently completes all assignments designated by the building Principal and/or Executive Director.
  • Regularly attends meetings both during and outside of the school day, as required by nature of the position and commitment, including district and building level committees.
  • Implements and monitors school-wide behavioral expectations and policies including monitoring attendance trends and interventions, addressing safety and welfare issues by holding meetings with parents, investigating incidents, documenting findings, contacting proper authorities and conforming to legal requirements and regulations.
  • Supervises employees by assigning and directing work, interviewing, evaluating performance, disciplining, and resolving issues.
  • Implements instructional and assessment strategies by collecting and analyzing student achievement data, and facilitating discussions among teachers and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines and schedules, work with detailed information/data, effectively communicate with diverse groups and work with others
  • Willingness to participate in and lead training sessions
  • Willingness to engage in continuous improvement and professional growth
  • Familiarity with Google applications, documents, sheets, forms, student information system (Infinite Campus) and assessment platforms.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to students who engage in elopement from the classroom or the building and/or become physically aggressive.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts associated with copy machines, elevators, wheelchairs, and other adaptive and/or audiology equipment.  The employee may be exposed to outside weather elements in accordance with supervision needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Mental Functions: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, coordinate, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, instruct, and negotiate.
