Who We Are And What We Do

TennCare is Tennessee's managed care Medicaid program that provides health insurance coverage to certain groups of low-income individuals such as pregnant women, children, caretaker relatives of young children, older adults, and adults with physical disabilities. TennCare provides coverage for approximately 1.7 million Tennesseans and operates with an annual budget of approximately $14 billion. It is run by the Division of TennCare with oversight and some funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Job Overview

In pursuing this commitment, TennCare continues to be a leader in innovation through delivery system transformation. TennCare's Strategic Planning and Innovation (SPI) Department plays an integral role for the agency in transitioning health care delivery from a fee-for-service payment arrangement to a payment system based on value. SPI consists of 11 employees across two units that drive value-based payment efforts and other strategic initiatives to further TennCare's agency priority of leading innovation through quality and value. The Assistant Director of SPI will partner closely with the Director of SPI on successful leadership and management of the agency's value-based payment initiatives and will manage the Strategy unit (four individuals). The role will have high visibility across the department as well as TennCare executive and senior leadership to partner and lead priority initiatives to fulfill TennCare's ultimate vision of a healthier Tennessee.
