Park Decorator

Job Summary:

The Park Decorator role is responsible in fabricating and maintaining props, sets, window displays, floral arrangements and artificial foliage applications, seasonal holiday decorations, shade control, restaurant seating, window coverings, carpet, and theater curtains for the Disneyland® Resort, and other departments. Each location may have a specific theme or time-period, which the Park Decorator will need to identify and understand. Individuals specified to work as a Park Decorator must have a full understanding of safety, hardware, efficient fabrication techniques and an awareness of theme park décor installations. They must be aware of current vendors and product availability for decorations.

Those in the Park Decorator team, will report to the leaders within Resort Enhancement.

Opportunities may include working in one of the following positions: Set Decorator or Seasonal Holiday Decorator.

Responsibilities:

What You Will Do:
The Park Decorator role includes working in one of the following positions:

Set Decorator:
You will need to understand the theory of color, composition, balance, and texture and possess knowledge of period styles, fashions and set decorations. Ensure that all materials are authentic and appropriate for whatever the area show theme decides
Craft and fabricate artificial-floral arrangements, install, and maintain
Coordinate crafts to assist with projects as needed, during prop removal, storage and reinstallation for major attractions and projects.
Install and repair show-set props prior to Park opening. Installation of new attraction and land props.
Daily ‘Show Standards” activities include cleaning/dusting, repair, and routine maintenance of all areas (i.e., cleaning and inspection of prop and set decorations).
Follow the Disney Global Standards for prop fabrication, installation, and maintenance
Perform and assess safety evaluations of set pieces throughout the Resort.
Operation of box trucks, stake beds and lift equipment will be required.
Will use of power tools, rigging equipment and set installation tools.
Provide current portfolio.

Seasonal Holiday Designer:
You will work in a production team environment, partner with other Cast Members to accomplish fabrication timelines.
Design, fabricate, install, and maintain seasonal decorations for the Disneyland® Resort.
Possess set decorating, and period style knowledge that can be incorporated into designs for specific lands and areas.
Assess materials and replace materials within the allocated budget.
Operation of box trucks, stake beds and lift equipment will be required.
Performs warehouse duties which include organization, inventory, storage, and packaging of all holiday décor items.

Basic Qualifications:

  • General requirements of all Park Decorator roles include the abilities and experience outlined above, as well as the following technical abilities, skills and experience:
    • Knowledge of basic tools, glues and adhesives
    • Strong freehand and graphic-illustration skills to produce thumbnail sketches as well as finished-presentation-style drawings
    • Understanding of accurate use of basic floral instruments (Set Decorator only)
    • Complete understanding of the following: Overhead rigging and hardware systems, color theory, composition, balance and texture, period styles and fashions
    • Current window-display-design skills
    • Proficiency in time management and efficient material utilization
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for accuracy of props, set fabrication and installation
    • Window Display Designer
    • 3+ years of experience in visual communications or three-dimensional media and in floral design
    • Able to provide a portfolio with current display design and color photos of current work
    • Must possess a valid CA Driver's License
  • You must be 18 years or older to be considered for this role

Preferred Qualifications:

Set Decorator:
3+ years of proven experience with theme park, film or stage set decorating and/or Bachelor of Arts degree.
Digital literacy – Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Seasonal Holiday Designer:
Aerial and forklift certification is preferred

Additional Information:

SCHEDULE AVAILABILITY
Availability to work Monday through Friday from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., including holidays and weekends if required. (Shifts and work days may change during periods of installation or striking of decorations and assets.)

Able to work overnights and overtime when needed for installation purposes.

Shifts are typically at night, and individuals must have availability to work Sunday through Saturday, any shift (1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift) including holidays, and must be open to any days off.

The pay rate for this role in California is $31.20 per hour.
