Responsibilities
- Teach English speaking, literacy and job readiness language to ELL adult learners
- Conduct intake assessments to place clients at the correct proficiency level
- Teach 2 online ELL classes per week (3 instructional hours each, for 6 hours total), including at least one evening class
- Assess and report on client progress to supervisor
- Track and ensure timely data entry of client attendance, assessments and specific client services
- Monitor 1W1L’s ELL Slack channel and address questions from volunteer tutors
- Meet monthly with volunteer tutors to ensure tutoring reinforces class instruction and to troubleshoot challenges
- Participate in 1W1L staff meetings in person or online to communicate needs and progress
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements
- Experience in teaching ESL to adult learners; TESOL certification desired
- Proficiency and comfort using Zoom for online ESL teaching, especially for beginners
- Ability to commit to teaching 2 classes/week, including one in the evening, and offering instructional guidance to volunteer tutors
- Organized, excellent communication skills, and collaborative mindset
- Outstanding cross-cultural communication skills, experience working with refugee and immigrant communities, and familiarity with trauma-informed care and forced migration
Compensation/Schedule
- $30/hour
- 8 hours/week (2 3-hour classes and 2 hours prep and volunteer tutor support)
