Events & Marketing Manager
National Journal is hiring an Events & Marketing Manager, responsible for co-owning and executing the organization’s events strategy to serve the team’s overall goals of attracting and retaining members.

What is National Journal’s marketing and events team?
Our team consists of digital marketers, events professionals, and graphic designers who have a shared goal of driving value for National Journal members. We concept, develop, coordinate, and execute events and digital marketing campaigns that engage, educate, and deliver value to our clients while also generating market interest in National Journal’s products. We work closely with revenue partners to capitalize on that interest to bring on new members and retain existing ones.
The Role:
The Events & Marketing Manager will own the development, coordination, and execution of NJ events with the goal of driving membership value and engaging clients and prospects. We run events ranging from intimate dinners, to webinars, to in-person and virtual roundtables, to an annual summit, and more. This role will also co-manage our presence at sponsored conferences and industry events and partner across the business to contribute to cross-channel marketing campaigns.
This is an integral role on the team with the opportunity to have an impact across the business.
Your responsibilities will include:
Events
- Work with business partners from across the product and revenue teams to develop a robust, high-value calendar of member and prospect events.
- Own the events strategy, including conception, development, recruitment, execution, and follow up for all experiences.
- Work with the revenue teams to ensure events are contributing to membership renewal and prospect engagement.
- Broker contracts, coordinate pre-event outreach, develop a compelling on-site presence, and organize post-event follow up.
- Develop recruitment strategies that include compelling messaging and creative tactics, including email marketing, social media, and personalized outreach to meet or exceed attendance goals.
- Develop timelines and a communications calendar for individual events.
- Actively monitor recruitment progress, keep stakeholders updated, and devise and propose contingency plans (as needed) to meet target attendee numbers.
- Provide post-event reporting and lessons learned, updating stakeholders on event performance with the goal of improving our experiences.
- Monitor industry and functional best practices and work to implement them as appropriate.
- Continuously refine and develop the events strategy to serve the growing and diverse membership.
Marketing
- Craft compelling messaging that drives interest in National Journal’s events and products.
- Collaborate with peers on the marketing team, designers, and other internal stakeholders to execute email and social media recruitment, retention, and follow-up campaigns.
- Own all tracking and reporting for events and regularly communicate results to stakeholders.
- Co-manage external partnerships, including negotiating partnerships, brokering, and coordinating National Journal’s presence, involvement, and engagement at external events.

- Experience with CRMs and marketing automation software (Salesforce and Marketo preferred) is a plus.
- Experience with Excel is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $55,000-$65,000
Location: This job is based in Washington, DC. National Journal operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees required to be in the office every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
