FALL 2025 Programs Abroad Global Ambassador

DESCRIPTION: 

Programs Abroad Office (PAO) Global Ambassadors in the Center for Global Engagement aid students through their study abroad process via advising, administrative support, and outreach efforts. PAO Global Ambassadors act as one of the first points of contact for many of the approximately 2,000 students who study abroad annually.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • ADVISING (60%):
    • Serve as the primary advisors for walk-in appointments in the VolsAbroad Lounge.
    • Conduct virtual drop-in advising hours as needed.
    • Monitor and appropriately respond to all advising inquiries in the VolsAbroad email inbox and phone line, escalating student and family inquiries to professional staff members as appropriate. 
  • ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT (30%): Use the application management software (VolsAboroad Portal) to:
    • Process and track student information (i.e. academic records, student conduct records, passport information, etc.).
    • Create and audit needed reports (i.e. program rosters, emergency information packets, etc.).
    • Input relevant programmatic information (i.e. dates, locations, etc.).
    • Update and ensure the accuracy of student-facing program pages including images, student testimonials, and programmatic information.
  • OUTREACH EFFORTS (10%): Plan, execute, and support various outreach activities throughout the term of service including (but not limited to): 
    • PAO events like annual VolsAbroad Fairs; Study Abroad 101 Information Sessions and Global Guides; scholarship and application workshops; etc. 
    • General classroom presentations and tabling.
    • PAO campus partner events like Big Orange Welcome, Engagement Fairs, etc.
    • Collaborative events with the Study Abroad Returnees (SOAR) student organization or other study abroad alumni.
       

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required:
    • Currently enrolled undergraduate student
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
    • Desire to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences
    • Interest and/or experience in peer mentoring and advising
  • Preferred: 
    • Experience on a UT study abroad program or other international travel experience
    • Basic administrative skills (email, excel, data entry, report generation, etc.)

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

  • As of 3-24-2025 the pay rate is $11 per hour. 
    • This job qualifies for federal work-study
  • Students are expected to work an average of 10-15 hours a week - not to exceed 20 hours per week. 
  • The VolsAbroad Lounge is open daily during regular business hours (8am-5pm). 
  • There is an opportunity for additional hours, either in-person or virtually, over breaks (May mini-session, summer, and winter), and through exams in December and May.
  • PAO Global Ambassadors are occasionally expected to work additional hours outside of their weekly schedule (including some nights and weekends) to support outreach events.
  • Candidates should anticipate working through the 2025-26 academic year, however there will be semesterly check-ins to ensure satisfactory performance.
