Trails Center Information Associate

Adirondack Hamlets to Huts is seeking a passionate, engaging, and knowledgeable outdoor recreation enthusiast to serve as a full-time, seasonal Information Associate in the AHH Trails Center on Main Street in Saranac Lake. 

 

Our ideal new team member will be able to talk about all elements of the Adirondack Hamlets to Huts initiative to the Centers’ visitors, provide information about where to hike, paddle, bike and otherwise safely and responsibly recreate in the Adirondacks, and efficiently operate the Center’s SQUARE Point-of-Sale while selling the shop’s select merchandise.     

 

Adirondack Hamlets to Huts Trail Center

Position: Hamlets to Huts Trail Center Information Associate

Dates: Preferably mid-May through mid-October, with the possibility of extended employment.   

Hours: 40 hours/week. 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ability and willingness to work weekend days are preferred. 

Hourly Pay Rate: $18.00/hour. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Enthusiastically promote and inform the Center’s visitors about the Adirondack Hamlets to Huts initiative and its operational and proposed routes.
  • Provide visitors with information about where to hike, paddle, bike and otherwise safely and responsibly recreate in the Adirondacks
  • Open and close the Trails Center while completing all prescribed opening and closing duties and procedures.
  • Maintain the clean and orderly appearance and operation of the entire Trails Center.
  • Assist in tracking inventory, pricing, and sales for all merchandise in the store. 
  • Maintain and assist in the creation of store displays as needed. 
  • Update Mailchimp contact database. 
  • Track visitor numbers via Customer Tally Sheet. 
  • Assist in developing content for and maintaining ADKH2H social media accounts.
  • Assist in educational exhibit design and program development as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience and first-hand knowledge of the hiking, paddling, and biking trails and routes--as well as other recreation opportunities--available in the Tri-Lakes area is preferred. 
  • Friendly and eager to engage Trails Center visitors in conversational, educational, and outreach capacities.
  • Possessive of a solid work ethic and a strong sense of initiative; self-motivated with the ability to work independently; and a willingness to “seek out what needs to be done” and do the necessary nuts-and-bolts work. 
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Outdoor gear retail experience preferred.
  • Neat and clean in appearance; professional in all matters of conduct. 
  • Experience in outdoor and environmental education is preferred.
