Senior Financial Analyst

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Finance Department is the organization of the fiscal and budgetary operations of the agency. The department is responsible for sound
financial planning for the agency and for ensuring compliance with all fiscal policies
at the local, state and federal levels. The Senior Financial Analyst provides analysis
and auditing functions within the finance department. The Senior Financial Analyst
applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare
financial reports by compiling information and utilizing appropriate accounting
control procedures. This role researches and gathers current financial information to
incorporate efficient and effective reporting tools within the financial accounting
system. The employee is expected to perform independently within established
procedures and regulations and receive general instructions on methods of work.

 

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Performing financial forecasting and budgeting to support business planning
and decision-making processes.
2. Analyzing financial data and creating financial models for forecasting,
trending, and results analysis.
3. Preparing financial reports and presentations for senior management and
stakeholders.
4. Developing and maintaining financial performance metrics to measure the
effectiveness of business operations.
5. Preparing and presenting accurate monthly summary of expenses and direct
costs with concise action-oriented commentary and analysis.
6. Compiles and analyzes financial information.
7. Assist with special projects as requested.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Must have a thorough
knowledge of G.S. 159, APSM-75-1 and governmental budgeting and
accounting practices

Knowledge of governmental accounting methods, procedures and financial
practices

Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State fiscal regulations and
generally accepted accounting principles

Ability to analyze and correct financial problems and accounting errors

Ability to prepare interpretive or analytical accounting or financial statements
and reports

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Required Experience:
Associate’s degree and four (4) years of experience in
Accounting/Finance/Business or financial analysis related field.
OR
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in Accounting/Finance/Business
or financial analysis related field.
OR
Equivalent combination of education/experience.
