Software Development Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Santa Clara, CA

What I liked

The work I was doing was impactful. Code I wrote was being put into production while I was an intern, so I got to see the development process from start to finish. The team I worked with was also very easy to work with, and the manager was very relaxed about scheduling. If I had a conflict or needed to shift my hours around one week, it was very easy to do so. Also, I heard from other internships that sometimes the companies wouldn't really know exactly what to do with their interns, and might not have work for them. Amazon was very prepared for me, and even had extra features for me to work on if I was to finish the main goals early.

What I wish was different

Not much honestly. It was a great experience and I'm glad I got to work with them

Advice

The interview was harder than the internship, so don't feel stressed out if the interview seems really tough and you aren't prepared for it.

What I liked

The job was physical and didn't require a lot of thinking, it was a good workout. There were a lot of different tasks that you could perform, so never a dull shift. There was also a lot of overtime available because most people would leave at their eight hour mark.

What I wish was different

The hours, it was a weird time in-between swing and graveyard shift. My hours were 8:15pm to 4:45am three days in a row. It messed up my sleep schedule and I was always dead on Sundays.

Advice

Listen to what the floor supervisors say and do your job to the best of your ability.
